We’re Expecting You | DISCOVER CHURCH VALUE #6
Hey Discover Church,
You know the feeling when someone’s expecting you?
Like when you show up to a friend’s house and the lights are on, the snacks are out, the music’s playing, and there’s a seat saved just for you?
That’s the kind of church we’re building. We’re saving you a seat! Our sixth Discover Church Value is we’re expecting you!
We Believe in Jesus.
We Teach the Bible.
We Put People First.
We Care for the Family.
We Have Lots of Fun.
WE’RE EXPECTING YOU.
We’re not only expecting you, we’re expecting your friends, your family, your neighbors, your hairstylist, your coworkers, and anyone else you invited on Tuesday evening! We strive to create an atmosphere where you can walk in and feel right at home, and so can anyone else you invite.
Our hospitality team wants to get to know you. Our kids team is excited to wow your kids. And our pastors are there to encourage you — as if you’re sitting around our couch, getting to know us with bubbly waters in hand and smash burgers on the Blackstone.
We believe the Gospel is good news for everyone—and it should feel that way the moment you walk through the doors.
Because following Jesus shouldn’t feel confusing, intimidating, or disconnected from real life.
“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” – Romans 15:7
When Kara and I talk about Discover Church, we keep coming back to one picture: our living room.
Couches. Conversations. Laughter. Messy stories. Real people.
We imagine church like that—genuine, grounded, and full of grace.
We love seeing people at the grocery store, cheering with parents on the sidelines, showing up in everyday places and sharing everyday faith. Church shouldn’t be a place you visit—it should be a place you belong.
And when someone walks through our doors for the first time, we want them to feel like we were waiting for them.
Because we are.
A church that feels like home…
…isn’t about trendy signage or perfect programs.
It’s about being known. It’s about being real. It’s about building something bigger than Sunday—it’s about life together.
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” – Acts 2:42
This is what the first church looked like—fellowship and food, scripture and shared life. Not just sermons, but stories. Not just theology, but tables. Not just crowds, but community.
That’s the heartbeat behind this value.
We want to be a church where:
You don’t have to dress a certain way or pretend to have it all together.
Your questions are welcome, your past doesn’t disqualify you, and your presence matters.
You feel safe bringing your friends—because you know they’ll be seen, welcomed, and loved.
So what does this look like in action?
It means:
☕ Our coffee is good. Because we want you to stay and talk, not rush out.
👋 Our greeters know your name. Because relationships matter.
🪑 We saved you a seat. Literally and spiritually.
🎉 We celebrate new people. Because you’re not just “another face”—you’re family.
We’re 34 days from launch (September 21st!), and this value is shaping everything: from our signage to our smiles, our kids’ check-in to our small groups. We want Discover Church to feel like the kind of place you’d invite your neighbor to without hesitation.
So what can you do this week?
1️⃣ Invite someone.
A coworker, a neighbor, a parent at school pickup. Tell them we’ve been expecting them. Share our Instagram page, give an encouraging word,
2️⃣ Make room.
At your table, in your schedule, in your row at church. Hospitality is holy. It’s messy and inconvenient to serve others, but taking time to invite, start a conversation, or scoot over in a row and usher someone in are acts of love.
3️⃣ Be real.
Vulnerability is where connection begins. Your story might be the key to someone else’s breakthrough. Who knows how your stories my intersect or how you might encourage (or be encouraged) from sharing your life.
4️⃣ Pray for people far from God.
Ask God to show you who’s one invitation away from everything changing. We believe God is writing something special in San Marcos—and you are part of it. Let’s be a church that feels like home from the very first hello!
Have a great Monday, church.
You’re seen. You’re known. You belong here. And we can’t wait to meet your friends.
