You Can’t Lose: Living in the Victory of Christ
Pastor Kyle Veach
Life can feel like one long uphill battle. Between marriage, family, work, finances, and even faith, many people wonder if they’ll ever catch a break. Pressure builds until defeat feels inevitable. But God’s Word declares something different: you can’t lose, because Jesus already won.
The Pressure of Everyday Life
To all the dads…remember a time when you were asked to list your kids’ names and birthdays? Or maybe what teacher they have or where they go to school? You start strong, but within seconds, sweat breaks out. The pressure gets to you—not because you don’t love your kids, but because life is overwhelming and under pressure, we sometime go blank.
That moment is familiar to all of us. Stress has a way of sneaking in, even when we’re doing our best. Most people aren’t failing because they’re careless; they’re exhausted, stretched thin, and carrying more than they were designed to bear.
Victory That’s Already Settled
Romans 8:37-39 offers hope:
“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love … nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” —Romans 8:37-39 (NLT)
The believers in Rome lived as a marginalized minority under the shadow of the empire. From the outside, they looked like they were losing. Paul reminded them that circumstances don’t determine the scoreboard—Jesus does.
The Greek word he uses for “overwhelming victory” is hypernikōmen. It doesn’t mean scraping by. It means a landslide win.
Redefining What It Means to Win
Culture measures success with trophies, promotions, and influence. God measures it with humility, kindness, and generosity.
From victory means freedom, grace, and rest in Christ.
For victory means striving, stress, and performance for approval.
When life is lived from victory, prayer, service, and forgiveness flow from love rather than fear.
The Scoreboard Is Settled
Sports fans know the tension of watching a close game. Padres fans, for example, never know if the next inning will bring triumph or heartbreak. But life in Christ isn’t like that. The outcome has already been decided. The enemy never had a chance.
That’s why Christians can wake up confident each day:
God is on my side.
My life has purpose.
If God is for me, who can be against me?
Secure in God’s Love
God’s love isn’t fragile. It’s like a seatbelt that locks when turbulence hits. When life jerks suddenly, His love holds firm and keeps believers secure.
This truth means the path forward is steady and simple:
Pray, even with few words.
Open Scripture, even one verse - God’s Word is life-giving.
Say “I love you,” even after conflict.
Take one step toward Jesus, even when discouraged.
Turning Loss Into Victory
Jesus specializes in flipping the scoreboard. Paul’s own life went from persecuting Christians to preaching Christ. Loss became victory.
The same is true today. Even when health fades, dreams crumble, or careers shift, joy in Christ proves the win is never lost. The greatest battle—death itself—has already been defeated.
The Final Word
The message of Romans 8 is clear: you can’t lose, because Jesus has already won. Salvation means trusting Him to forgive the past, walk with us in the present, and secure the future.
Real victory is not about busyness, trophies, or striving. It’s about resting in the unshakable love of God and living from the victory that has already been secured.
