WE TEACH THE BIBLE | Discover CHurch Value #2
⛪️ MONDAY MORNING CHURCH ⛪️
Hey Discover Church,
Happy Monday! I pray you are having the best summer! I know our family is. It’s been filled with beach days, vacation, pool time, and as much work as possible. As we keep moving toward our launch in September, we want to keep reminding you of what kind of church we’re building, what we value, and what we stand on.
You might not know it yet, but we have five Discover Church values:
We Believe in Jesus.
We Teach the Bible.
We Put People First.
We Have Lots of Fun.
We Care for the Family.
Let’s take this week’s Monday Morning Church to look at our second value:
We TEACH THE BIBLE.
Here’s the thing, the Bible is a book of miracles. It’s not dusty and outdated; it’s alive and active. It’s more than stories on a page, it’s the very Word of God.
We believe the Bible is our blueprint for life.
We believe the Bible is our compass when we feel lost.
We believe the Bible is a snapshot of heaven here on earth.
We believe the Bible is our weapon when we feel under attack.
If you’re wondering what kind of church Discover will be, we’re going to be a church that opens the Word every week, applies it to real life, and helps you see how it points to Jesus in everything.
When Kara and I first moved to San Diego, I’ll be honest, I was lost. I didn’t know where to get coffee, where to eat lunch, where to get new tires… It was exciting but overwhelming. New city, new job, and three kids trying to adjust. There were days I’d wake up and feel a little lost, like, “God… remind me why you brought us here again?” I’ll never forget one of those mornings when I opened my Bible and my reading plan had me in Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
It was like God whispered, “You don’t need to see the whole path, just trust the next step I show you.” That verse carried me through so much uncertainty.
The Bible has a way of showing up exactly when you need it, if you open it. (🤪‼️)
“A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.” — Charles H. Spurgeon
I heard someone say the Bible is like the GPS on your phone. You can have the best navigation app in the world, but it won’t help you if you don’t turn it on and follow it. The Bible works the same way. The Bible gives you the best route, warns you about wrong turns, and even helps you reroute when you make a wrong turn. But you’ve got to open it. (🤪‼️)
You’ve got to listen to it.
When you don’t know where to turn? Open your Bible.
When you don’t know what to do? Open your Bible.
When you don’t feel like God is speaking? Open your Bible.
It’s alive.
It’s active.
It’s enough.
We want to raise up a church where people don’t just hear the Bible on Sunday, but they carry it with them into Monday. Where families open it together. Where kids memorize it. Where decisions are shaped by it. Because we believe God’s Word still works.
📖 5 Ways to Start Reading the Bible Today
We know opening the Bible can feel intimidating… You may be asking, “Where do I even begin?” Here are five simple ways to get started today:
1️⃣ Start Small
You don’t have to read a whole book at once. Start with a short passage, even just one verse. Let it sink in. I heard this line once and it changed how I spent my time reading my Bible: “Don’t just read the Bible, let the Bible read you.” Meaning, slow down. Try reading one chapter a day from the book of John to begin seeing who Jesus really is.
2️⃣ Pick a Time & Place
Set yourself up to win by making it part of your daily routine. Maybe it’s 10 minutes with your morning coffee, or before you go to bed. Consistency matters more than perfection. (⛽️🔥🙌🏼)
3️⃣ Use a Simple Plan & Tools
Don’t feel like you have to figure it all out yourself. Here are three resources that Pastor Kara and I absolutely love:
Life Journal & S.O.A.P. method. Read a passage, then write: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer.
A Proverb a Day: There are 31 chapters in Proverbs one for every day of the month. (Proverb a day keeps the devil away… not true but catchy)
Bible in One Year (Nicky & Pippa Gumbel) A free app or email that guides you through the whole Bible in a year, with daily commentary.
4️⃣ Pray Before & After
Before you start reading, ask God to speak to you through His Word. When you finish, take a moment to thank Him for what you learned and ask for help living it out.
5️⃣ Don’t Do It Alone
Find a friend, family member, or small group to read with. I text my devotions (S.O.A.P) to a group of guys nearly every day and have for 15 years. Talk about what you’re learning. Encourage each other. The Bible is meant to be lived out in community.
This week take a few minutes each day to open your Bible. Highlight. Underline. Pray it. Even if it’s just one verse a day. God is desperate to talk to you.
We love you and we’re so thankful we get to build this kind of church with you.
See you soon,
– Pastor Kyle
