HOPE WHEN LIFE HURTS | TALKING TO GOD HONESTLY
⛪️ MONDAY MORNING CHURCH ⛪️
Welcome to our first edition of Monday Morning Church.
As we get ready to gather weekly as a church in September it leaves a gap until then. We want to encourage you in a weekly teaching titled “Monday Morning Church.”
I want to start by letting you into something personal.
In October of 2024, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, also known as Graves’ disease. I didn’t see it coming. I’ve always been active, running, playing sports, lifting, enjoying the sun and outdoors. Moving to San Diego from Washington, I was ready to take full advantage of this new life outside. But suddenly my body failed me. I lost all my muscle (not a lot 🤪), lost all energy, my hands were shaking and my resting heart rate was stuck at 96 bpm. It was brutal.
It reminded me:
This body 💪🏼 is not my forever home 🏠
Scripture says:
“This world is not our permanent home” (Hebrews 13:14)
“our bodies are perishing” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
That might sound intense, but it’s also clarifying.
This diagnosis became a wake up call. Not just about my health, but about my purpose. This life is short and our mission is eternal. That’s why we’re planting Discover Church.
We’re not just starting services, watching kids, enjoying a good worship band, hearing encouraging messages…
we’re building a CHURCH to overpopulate heaven, because eternity is at stake.
And if you’re going through something hard right now, whether it’s your body, your job, your family, or your faith, here are a few things that helped me get back up when life hits you hard:
Talk to God honestly: Not with filters, but with faith. He’s not intimidated by raw prayers (Psalm 62:8).
Anchor your identity: Your crisis does not define you. Your struggle is not your identity. You’re a child of God (Romans 8:16–17).
Keep your people close: When I couldn’t run, Kara and some close friends carried me emotionally. Don’t isolate yourself. Lean in.
Celebrate the small wins: A lower heart rate, a short walk, a moment of peace. Small steps lead to strength.
Lift your eyes: Remember that this is not all there is. You were made for more. (2 Corinthians 4:18).
God does not promise us ease, but He gives us purpose. If you are going through a hard time right now, you are at the right church on the right team, we’d love to be praying for you. We have a prayer team that is praying for you — we want to encourage you to click on the “prayer” button, and share what you’re walking through so we can be praying for your specific needs.
If you know someone going through a hard time right now, it would be great for them to join this community at Discover Church. Send this encouragement along or invite them to the next Discover Gathering.
Let’s overpopulate heaven.
Grateful to be building this with you,
-Pastor Kyle
